Adoption Process

Find your best friend

We have many wonderful animals waiting to find their forever homes. Our goal is to make sure every pet is matched with the right family, so we ask that all adopters take a few simple steps before meeting an animal.

Submitting an application is the first step in the process. It does not obligate you to adopt, nor does it guarantee an adoption. It simply helps us learn more about you so we can ensure the best fit for both you and the pet.

Step 1: Review Our Adoption Requirements

Before meeting any of our animals, please take a moment to read through our adoption requirements:

  • An Adoption Application must be completed before meeting a pet.

  • Veterinary and personal references will be checked. If your vet requires permission to release information, please notify their office once you’ve applied.

  • We do not adopt to “outside only” homes. Pets deserve the comfort and safety of being indoors.

  • Certain dogs may require a fenced yard or may not be the right match for apartment or condo living.

  • A Meet & Greet will be arranged by our rescue once your application is approved.

  • An adoption contract must be signed, and an adoption fee is required to help cover spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, and other medical care.

  • Adoption fees are $195 for dogs & puppies and $110 for cats & kittens.

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old.

  • Proof of employment may be requested.

  • Renters: we will verify with your landlord that pets are allowed.

  • In some cases, puppies or kittens may be adopted before they are old enough to be spayed/neutered. If this happens, we’ll work with you to schedule the procedure with one of our trusted partner veterinarians, and we’ll support you through the process to ensure your new pet gets the care they need.

Step 2: Submit an Application

We currently accept applications online. Please complete all questions thoroughly. Applications that are incomplete may be denied.

Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt, and approval is not guaranteed. Once reviewed, we’ll reach out to arrange next steps.

If you have any issues with the application process, please email us at mtpleasantanimalrescue@aol.com.

Step 3: Meet & Greet

Once your application is approved, we’ll contact you to set up a time to meet the pet you’re interested in. This meeting helps ensure it’s the right match for both you and the animal.

Our Adoption Center is located at 8750 East Franklin Street, Mt Pleasant NC 28124.

Step 4: Finalize the Adoption

If it’s a good fit, you’ll complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Then it’s time to welcome your new family member home!

Your adoption fee helps us provide every pet with the medical care and support they need before finding their forever home. These fees only cover a portion of the actual cost of care, but they make a big difference in helping us continue our mission.

Every adoption fee includes:

  • Microchip for permanent identification

  • Core vaccinations

  • Routine medical care and treatment

  • Physical exams

  • Flea/tick prevention

  • Heartworm prevention

In addition, we provide daily care, food, shelter, and love.

By adopting, you’re not only giving a pet a second chance, you’re also helping us cover the cost of their journey to health and a new home.
